Over the course of more than three-and-a-half decades Denzel Washington has starred in about 50 films, but "Fences" is a special one for him. First of all, it's only the third time he's taken seat on the director's chair (after 2002s "Antwone Fisher" and "The Great Debaters" from 2007). Then, he knows the material very well, because he played it before. "Fences" is based on a play by August Wilson (who also wrote the sceenplay) written in the early 1980s (when Mr. Washington's carreer was just beginning) which got recognition from both the Pulitzer and the Tony Awards. Two decades later, the play made a successful return to Broadway - starring Washington and Viola Davis, who reprised their roles for the movie adaptation.

eine gutgemeinte 3. hätte man den anderen Schauspielern die in dem Film leider zur Projektionsleinwand für weitere nicht enden wollende Monologe von Mr. Washington missrieten ... hätte man den anderen Schauspielern mehr Raum gelassen für ihre Figuren, dann hätte das echt was tolles werden können. Aber so 
eine 3 ... weit entfernt von einer 10. aber nah genug an der 0 um mich zufrieden aus dem Kino gehen zu sehen.
