"One of These Days" is the fourth feature film by German director/screenwriter Bastian Günther, and the second he directed in America after "Houston". The "true events" this film was inspired by was the "Hands On" contest, which was a real thing at least back in the 1990s; the 1995 contest - which lasted for more than three days - was documented on film and released as "Hands on a Hardbody: The documentary" in 1997. Veteran filmmaker Robert Altman tried to turn this into a feature film before his death in 2006, and the story of the contest was even turned into a musical in 2012. Günther used the real event for a fictional drama about the people participating in (and organizing) the contest, which can be seen in the trailer:
And how did you like this film, which had a rather odd narrative structure with the main contest being over some 25 minutes before the credits rolled? How did you like the performances, most notably by Joe Cole as underdog contestant Kyle, Callie Hernandez as his wife/girlfriend Maria, and Carrie Preston (of "True Blood" fame) as marketing lady Joan? Just tell us what you thought about this film in a reply to this post.
