#1260 Destroyer (2018)

Director Karyn Kusama first got noticed with her debut feature in the year 2000; festival darling "Girlfight" - about a young latina trying to succeed in the macho sport of boxing - did not only start her carreer, but also the one of the star, then-unknown Michelle Rodriguez. Her next two films, 2005's "Æon Flux" (Sneak #0582) and 2009's "Jennifer's Body" did not fare that well, and over the last years, she mainly worked in television before returning to the silver screen with "Destroyer". The dark and gritty crime drama is couriously enough written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, who both penned "Æon Flux" before churning out mainly cop comedies ("R.I.P.D.", the "Ride Along" movies). Well, this film also features cops, but most certainly is no comedy, as can be seen in the trailer:
