I was obviously joking when calling Steven Spielberg "an up-and-coming director of sorts" - the man is probably the most famous mainstream Hollywood movie director living today. I just found it very funny that we missed out on Spielberg flicks for 23 years and then got two of them in only six weeks.
"Ready Player One" is of course very different from "The Post." It is based on the debut novel of Ernest Cline (who had previously written the screenplay to "Fanboys") which was released in 2010, with the movie rights being sold immediately as well. Cline co-wrote the screenplay to his book with superhero specialist Zak Penn ("X2", "The Incredible Hulk", "Avengers"), and Spielberg signed on to direct, making this his return to the kind of adventure movies he made in the 1970s to 1990s, albeit with a very different look. Here's the trailer:
So, how did you enjoy the first big-budget sneak movie of 2018? Did you like the visuals, both for the "Oasis" and the real 2045? How about the pop-culture references to to mainly things from the 1970s and 1980s? And what did you think of the largely unknown protagonists (though Olivia Cooke alias Art3mis was the "Dying Girl" for "Me and Earl", and Tye Sheridan played Cyclops in the last "X-Men" movie)? Post your thoughts about "Ready Player One" as a reply to this article - you can use your VR helmet for that, if you like.
