"Hostiles" is the fourth film by writer-director Scott Cooper, and the third of his films to appear on the sneak screen. The virginian (whose debut feature "Crazy Heart" got Jeff Bridges an Oscar in 2010) directed the rust-belt crime-and-punishment drama "Out of the Furnace" (Sneak #1001) starring Christian Bale and Casey Affleck, before he turned to the real-life story of mobster and FBI informant "Whitey" Bulger in "Black Mass" (#1081). This time, he's back to filming his own script, though it wasn't his own material. "Hostiles" is based on an unpublished script by screenwriter Donald E. Stewart which his widow found by accident when moving out of their former residence. She eventually contacted Cooper who revised the script some more before filming. Curiously, Stewart is credited not only as the source for the script, but also as an executive producer for a film released 18 years after his death in 1999.

So what did you think about this western set in the 1890s from New Mexico up to Montana? Did you like the visuals, the story, and/or the perfomances by Christian Bale, Rosamund Pike, Wes Studi and many more, including recent sneak regular Jesse Plemons and "Call Me By Your Name" standout Timothée Chalamet (in small roles)? Please write down your thoughts about the film in a reply to this post - or do we have to get an order by president Bejamin Harrison to compel you (spoiler: we won't)?
