#1204 Molly's Game

Beitrag von Kasi Mir »

Anyone who doesn't know the author of the script for "Molly's Game" after at most two minutes of runtime has obviously never heard of Aaron Sorkin. The New Yorker screenwriter (and creator of TV series such as "The West Wing" and "The Newsroom") is well-known for his fast-talking, multi-layered, razor-sharp dialogues full of in-jokes, cultural references, and one-liners. We have witnessed this three times in the last decade with his scripts for "Charlie Wilson's War" (Sneak #0683), "Moneyball" (#0888) and most recently "Steve Jobs" (#1085). "Molly's Game", which is based on the memoirs of the real Molly Bloom, is a premiere, however, as it is the first time Sorkin has directed a movie himself. For his "debut", he could depend upon a number of very capable actors, most of all Jessica Chastain, of course. She was the first choice of the real Molly Bloom, who ran high-stakes poker games from 2003 until 2011 and was arrested in 2013, where the movie begins. Here's the trailer:

How did you like "Molly's Games", from the story to the dialogues and the performances, which included Idris Elba, Kevin Costner, Chris O'Dowd, and of course Michael Cera as the infamous "Player X" (whose identity Molly never revealed, though there are persistent rumors pointing to Tobey Maguire)? Please don't write your thoughts about "Molly's Game" on a napkin and drown them in champagne - just put them into a reply to this post.
"Sometimes, you can still catch me dancing in it."
"My mind has an endless capacity for useless information."
